The backdrop of Asbury Park sets the tone for what TEDxNavesink Identity is all about — ideas worth spreading.
For years, Asbury Park has withstood radical changes, yet has remained much the same in many ways. It stands as a symbolic and figurative bastion of hope and a consistent heartbeat of New Jersey music, business, and technology.
“Asbury Park itself is so emblematic of people who really want to change and better the community,” TEDxNavesink Chief of Staff Mary Rawlinson said.
This Friday, Jan. 20, TEDxNavesink hosts an Open Mic Night for new voices to compete for a chance to give a TED Talk at the Identity conference in May. Admission for the Open Mic is free and attendees have a chance to win two tickets to TEDxNavesink: Identity.
“We had over 150 applicants and tried to make it a mix of people to get as many different perspectives as possible,” Rawlinson said of the Open Mic auditions. “Some are really young, really old, hip-hop artists, transgender, technology disruptors.”
The simple act of listening is so important and many people often lose sight of that. An Open Mic Night format encourages everyone to stop and listen. There are ideas out there that are worth listening to, yet are not heard. Take the initiative and listen.
