What can Monmouth University students expect from TEDxNavesink?

The historic campus of Monmouth University will provide the backdrop for TEDxNavesink 2016 Makers on April 9 at Pollak Theatre. Monmouth University students will have the unique opportunity to take part in a local TEDx event right on their campus.

The beauty of TEDxNavesink is that it offers something for everyone, regardless of your interests, your major, or your intended career path. With this year’s theme, makers, you’ll find inspiration and fresh ideas on topics ranging from art to invention, and from technology to startups and crowd sourcing. The sheer range of speakers and experts is exhilarating—musicians, innovators, artists, philanthropists, writers, thought leaders. And each one of them is bursting to tell you what has made them and share with their passions with you.

Check out the local talent

Each of the TEDxNavesink events has brought together presenters and speakers from around the world, but also on the roster are local experts and voices sharing their talent and expertise. This year’s speakers include some of the best Monmouth county has to offer—Monmouth University’s own Dr. Walter Greason and Melissa Febos, social skills experts Chris Dudick and Bernadette Mullen, Sea Bright Mayor Dina Long, venture capitalist Jay Bhatti, and Covenant House International president Kevin Ryan.

Inspiration and intent

What’s it like to try to make the world a better place? Many of the TEDxNavesink speakers are creators and innovators in their fields. They’re offering their views and some new perspectives in areas of global and national interest, such as cultural change, technology, and leadership. Others are focused on inspiring change on a more personal level, with topics such as using relationship tactics in business, the power of poetry, or even learning to get into nature to become closer to yourself.

Learn to Network

One of the great added benefits of attending TEDxNavesink is the chance to meet and speak with many like-minded individuals. This year’s event will be a great opportunity for college students to hone their networking skills. The TEDxNavesink audience often includes artists, entrepreneurs, writers, and many lifelong learners who enjoy networking and connecting with someone new. In addition, the speakers and other TEDx participants tend to be very approachable and willing to answer questions. During breaks and after the conference, there is plenty of time to network with both attendees and speakers.

Who knows? You could even end up with a great lead for an internship, or even a future career connection!

Read through the other TEDxNavesink blog posts to find some in-depth interviews with some of this year’s speakers, plus many other ideas related to the theme of makers. You may find yourself exploring new areas where you can make a difference in the world, or in your own life.
