You — yes, you! — are the ideal TEDxNavesink attendee. You’re probably wondering how I know this when I don’t even know who you are, so allow me to explain.

You may have seen a link to this article in an email or through social media. Maybe a friend or colleague shared it directly with you, knowing you could appreciate the message within. It would have been easy for you to ignore the link, or to close it before reaching this sentence—most people do. Yet, here we are.

So what’s my point?

It’s simple. The reason you are the ideal TEDxNavesink attendee is you are both proactive and open-minded. You opened this article, are allowing me to communicate with you, and trusting that it will lead to some new knowledge or perspective. After all, isn’t that what TED is all about?

But TED is not just about “ideas worth spreading.” It is also about ideas worth hearing. It’s about people worth meeting and relationships worth forming. It’s about connections worth making and experiences worth having. The TED community is truly unlike any other. I once heard it referred to as “a community of curious souls,” a label I find so beautifully fitting.

It’s impossible for me to tell you how becoming a part of the TEDxNavesink community will affect your life. The ideas that will resonate with you, the doors that may open, and even the contributions you will be inspired to make are all matters of personal discovery. As with all new experiences, there will naturally be a level of uncertainty, and therefore hesitancy, that comes with it.

To that point, there is a quote I love from author and entrepreneur Jonathan Fields. It goes, “In eliminating uncertainty we kill our shot at brilliance.”

We grow and evolve most when we choose to engage in experiences that provide us with new perspectives. Regardless of how those experiences play out, I think that belief is fundamental to personal growth. When we push past the boundaries of what is routine and comfortable, and do so in a focused and intentional way, the possibilities are endless.

April 11, 2015 will come and go like any other day, but it doesn’t have to be just another day. It can be the day you experience 25 talks from brilliant thought leaders, engaging on-stage performances, conversations with like-minded individuals, and an immersive atmosphere of positive collaboration.

So I will say it once more: you are the ideal TEDxNavesink attendee. And we can’t wait to meet you.
